DESCRIPTION:
This package creates files that contain the HPQFlash utility and a binary image of the System BIOS (ROM) for the listed notebook models with a 68DTA Family ROM. The HPQFlash utility is used to locally flash the System BIOS on PCs operating in a Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System environment. IMPORTANT: Before installing this F.13 BIOS upgrade, the following drivers must be downloaded and installed on the notebook (look for them on the HP Software and Drivers website): - “HP Wireless Assistant” version 2.00 or later - “Quick Launch Buttons” version 6.20 or later NOTE: To determine the ROM family and ROM date, press F10 on the target notebook during startup to run the Setup Utility, and then view File/System Information.

ENHANCEMENTS:
- Provides modifications to fan speed algorithm for small form factor (SFF)
models.
- Changes the amount of memory that is reserved for integrated graphics systems
on desktops configured with 256 MB or less of memory.
- Removes MBR security option in F10 Setup.

FIXES:
- Corrects Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) and
Multi-Processor Specification (MPS) tables to accurately reflect the hardware
configuration.
- Fixes issue where a desktop would stop responding (hang) when using a PS/2
keyboard to install the Linux Operating System.
- Fixes issue with double clock time when operating in Advanced Programmable
Interrupt Controller (APIC) mode under the Linux operating system. (Desktops
running a Microsoft Windows Operating System are not affected by this issue.)

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Choose one of the following three options when presented:
- Create BIOS Flash Diskette *
- Create BIOS Flash DriveKey (the DriveKey must be bootable; this option
creates the files needed to be able to flash the BIOS from the DriveKey).
- Flash System BIOS Now! (this option enables the BIOS to be upgraded from
within the Microsoft Windows operating system environment) *

* At the present time, the ”Create BIOS Flash Diskette” and ”Flash System
BIOS Now!” options are only available for use on desktops that are running the
Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit) or Microsoft Windows Home Edition
(32-bit) Operating Systems. These options are not available for use with
desktops that are running the Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Operating System.

NOTE: After the files have been unpacked, the .EXE file that was downloaded in
Step 1 can be deleted, if desired.

WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE
UPDATE PROCESS!
